2 Most Famous Surf Camps in Portugal

These days it seems everyone has surfed in Portugal on their bucket list.

The diving industry has responded to this need for waves to the fullest.

Whenever possible, I should include recommendations for accommodation or information related to surfing. Here is the list of the 2 most famous Surf Camps in Portugal.

Best surfing sites in Northern Portugal

1. Viana do Castelo

Viana is a beautiful seaside town in the far north of Portugal, with a magnificent mountain peak offering panoramic views of the coast. The main surfing area here is Cabedelo Beach, and these waves are ideal for beginners and intermediates.

On very small days, you can drive 30 minutes south to Esposende, a quiet and beautiful place for seaside resorts that are very convenient and rarely crowded. Make it important to sample fresh seafood.

If you are an octopus lover, I recommend Polvo à Lagareiro. Viana is also close to Gerês National Park. So if you are unlucky with surf conditions, you have the best Northern hiking as a second-best option.

2. Matosinhos

The beach of Matosinhos in Porto is rated as one of the best ski resorts in Europe. This big city beach attracts local divers and tourists, no matter the circumstances.

Due to the slow tilt of the ocean floor and the large port wall, this wave is stable and well protected from North winds. When the whole coastline is very stormy, Matosinhos is where to go.

And just 20 minutes from Porto airport, Matosinhos is a great way for a quick weekend getaway. If you are going to swim in Portugal in winter or spring, Porto is a great option.
